Tabula Rasa Presents Empiricon 2019
August 1, 2019 - Empiricon, Asia's premier conference on tech and sustainability, will be held at Esplanade Annexe Studio on September 30, 2019. The conference, launched by Tabula Rasa at Singapore Week of Innovation and Technology last year, will continue to explore deep-tech solutions for sustainability and drive conversations on sustainable communities, consumption and production, new technology and innovation, and good health and well-being.

Empiricon 2019 is expected to see about 400 participants from both public and private sectors, including tech startups, investors, as well as youths and sustainability advocates. Over 30 panelists from fashion, sustainability, medicine, food science, and tech will be discussing issues such as zero waste, conscious fashion, the future of health, and mobility and inclusion, among others.

The conference will also feature multi-sensory experiences where participants will get a sneak peek into the future of our living environment.

Additionally, the Singapore semi-finals of the 'Make It In China' Startup Contest will take place at Empiricon; presented by Brinc and THero, the contest hopes to introduce international hardware startups to China's manufacturing ecosystem.

Tabula Rasa, an events curation agency that believes in driving impact through experiences, has one key goal at Empiricon 2019, to continue advocating for the UN Sustainable Development Goals to inspire and empower action for everyone to commit to a more sustainable future.

First Round of Speakers at Empiricon 2019
August 1, 2019 - Tabula Rasa is delighted to announce the first line-up of speakers at Empiricon 2019, which will be held at Esplanade Annexe Studio on September 30, 2019.

Cheryl Chung from the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy and Lekha Patmanathan from Nexergy will be sharing their ideas and insights on building a sustainable world through the use of technology on the Opening Panel.

Matthias Gelber, also known as the greenest person in the world, who has built South East Asia’s first off-grid tiny eco home and spends $10 on electricity, will be discussing the relationship between technology and sustainability with Dorjee Sun, blockchain investor and social entrepreneur known for his acclaimed work for Carbon Conservation, along with Joyce Tay, who runs various tech and startup programmes at StartupX.

Jonathan Tostevin, chief development at revolv, a company dedicated to reducing single-use plastics, and Stephanie Dickson, founder of Asia’s first Conscious Festival and media platform, Green Is The New Black, will be featured on a panel discussion that delves into zero-waste and conscious consumerism.

Dr. Reid Lim, the founder of MEDGIC, an artisanal Medical Artificial Intelligence company, and Dustin Jefferson Onghanseng, founder of uHoo, a company that provides clean air solutions, will be sharing their thoughts on the future of health and well-being.

An all-day conference on tech and sustainability, Empiricon aims to bring expertise from different communities and facilitate thoughtful discussions that help spark awareness and action.

More Speakers at Empiricon 2019
August 23, 2019 - Tabula Rasa is excited to announce more speakers at Empiricon 2019, to be held at Esplanade Annexe Studio on September 30, 2019.

Quentin Vaquette and Hareld van den Brink are joining the opening panel to discuss strategies and steps in building a sustainable world. Vaquette is the co-founder of ENGIE Factory Asia Pacific and Van den Brink is theAsia director at Metabolic, a company dedicated to creating solutions to global sustainability challenges.

A video address from Irish teenager Fionn Ferreira, winner of Google Science Fair 2019, will be played during the opening, in which Ferreira is going to share his experience at Google Science Fair, and his new method to remove microplastics from water.

Prof. Jeff Obbard, environmental scientist and founder of Living Planet, will be delivering a keynote speech on mitigating climate change through innovation. He will also be talking to Marc Allen, technical director at engeco, a company specialising in climate change strategies, following the presentation.

Elias Tan from Innovate 360 and Russ Neu from Quest Ventures will share their experiences on building sustainable communities in a fireside chat with Vinise Kwa from SecondMuse.

Fashion designer Jon Max Goh, who is also the programme manager at The Bridge Fashion Incubator, will be sharing his insights on zero-waste living and conscious consumerism during a panel discussion.

Verleen Goh, co-founder of Food Alchemy, a company determined to fight diabetics through food science, will be featured on a panel discussion on the future of health and well-being.

Jovan Tan, co-creator of Restorative Innovation, will be delivering a keynote speech on innovative ways to achieve the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

Christopher Quek, managing partner at TRIVE, and an entrepreneur-turned-venture capitalist who invests in early-stage deep tech startups, will be joining the closing panel discussing the role of technology in sustainability.

Full Agenda Announced for Empiricon 2019
August 23, 2019​ - Tabula Rasa is pleased to announce the ​full agenda​ for Empiricon2019, to be held at Esplanade Annexe Studio on September 30, 2019.

In its second year, Empiricon hopes to bring awareness to the ​Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)​ and to continue exploring deep-tech solutions for sustainability.

A video address from Irish teenager Fionn Ferreira​ will be played at the start of the conference. ​Ferreira is the winner of Google Science Fair 2019 who has developed a new method to ​remove microplastics from water​.

The opening panel, ‘Can Earth 5.0 Exist? How Do We Build A Sustainable World That Lasts?​’, aims to provide an overarching view of the future by looking at the most urgent challenges in sustainability and whether technology is the only solution to the problems.

A key note speech on climate change​ by Prof. Jeff Obbard will follow, in which he is going to explain the dangers of climate change and what tech innovations can do to reduce the harmful effects of climate change.

Following the keynote,​ afireside chat featuring​ community builders and leaders​ is going to highlight the importance of building smaller communities to resolve issues such as career opportunities, affordable housing, safety, and inclusion, which in turn, contributes to building a larger sustainable ecosystem.

The second half of the conference will start with a panel on ​zero-waste living​, featuring the world’s greenest man, Matthias Gelber, who is going to share with the audience his self-sufficient lifestyle and other sustainability initiatives.

The next panel, The Fashion Industry and its Relationship with Waste’​, will see panelists from the fashion industry discuss issues related to sustainability, ethics, and waste, including Charles & Keith’s Global Head of Sustainability, Ken Machado Sugita.

The Singapore Semi-Finals of​ Make It In China Startup Contest 2019​ will also be held at the conference as a partner event. Presented by Brinc and THero, the contest hopes to introduce i​ nternational hardware startups to China’s manufacturing ecosystem to establish strong supply chains with local partners and scale production.

After the contest, Christain Cadeo from Big Idea Ventures is going to deliver a presentation on ​the rise of plant-based and clean meat food on the global landscape​ and trends in consumer and investment opportunities,followed by a panel discussion on the future of health and well-being,​ which looks at w​hat we can do to change the way we live, and how technology can help prevent diseases and improve access to healthcare.

The closing panel,​ ‘Next-Gen Trend in Tech for Sustainability: What Are We Creating?’ will attempt to give the participants a glimpse of the future by dissecting the next-gen tech trends and ways newer technology can be created and used with sustainability in mind.
